– 25 May 2026 – The Rainforest Children’s Choir and Rainforest Large-Leaf Tea from Wuzhishan, Hainan, China, took centre stage at the International Tea Day event held at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome on May 21, becoming the occasion’s most sought-after presence. 

The children performed an original song “Lishan Tea Song” and a rendition of the beloved Italian classic “O Sole Mio,” drawing a captivated crowd. Among the audience were Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the FAO, and Zhang Lubiao, China’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Agencies in Rome.

The day marked the seventh International Tea Day, and the FAO hosted a tea tasting gathering at its Rome headquarters. Countries including China, Indonesia, Canada, Kenya, Azerbaijan, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Türkiye showcased their signature teas and cultural traditions, sharing tea as a bridge of friendship. 

The Wuzhishan delegation set up a display area featuring Rainforest Large-Leaf Tea and ethnic cultural products. Tea masters brewed tea for international guests, and the large-leaf black tea, known for its “amber liquor and honey aroma,” was widely appreciated. 

Hainan Large-Leaf Tea is a distinct species of the Camellia genus that evolved independently on Hainan Island and possesses rich genetic diversity. The research findings, published on the journal Agrobiodiversity on May 17, 2024, further enhance the tea’s unique appeal. 

The delegation also held business talks with Italian companies, exploring tea product exports and cross-border e-commerce cooperation, and mapping out pathways for Hainan’s tea industry to enter the international market. 

The International Tea Day is a UN observance initiated by China, aimed at promoting global tea culture exchange and the sustainable development of the tea industry. Oltre un milione e quattrocentomila euro spalmati in tre anni per garantire la sicurezza, l’accessibilità e il decoro della rete dedicata alle due ruote. È questo l’impegno economico approvato dalla Giunta regionale per il triennio 2026-2028, con l’obiettivo di finanziare gli interventi di manutenzione sulle principali direttrici ciclabili del territorio.

I fondi, che ammontano per la precisione a 476.100 euro per ciascuna annualità, andranno a coprire sia le opere ordinarie (con un tesoretto annuo di 100.000 euro) sia quelle straordinarie (per i restanti 376.100 euro). I tracciati interessati dallo stanziamento sono infrastrutture nevralgiche per la mobilità dolce e il turismo regionale: il sistema integrato Ciclopista dell’Arno-Sentiero della Bonifica e la Ciclovia Tirrenica. Le risorse verranno ripartite tra le amministrazioni locali in modo proporzionale, calcolando l’estensione in chilometri dei percorsi ciclopedonali ricadenti in ciascun territorio, andando a coprire una rete complessiva che supera i 330 chilometri.

Il presidente della Regione, Eugenio Giani, inquadra l’iniziativa nell’ottica di un supporto costante agli enti locali su tutta l’area regionale: “La Toscana conferma la propria attenzione alla mobilità sostenibile e continua a sostenere i Comuni, anche quelli della Toscana diffusa, in modo concreto, destinando alla manutenzione ordinaria e straordinaria di queste due importanti infrastrutture ciclabili oltre un milione e 400mila euro complessivi per il triennio 2026-2028. Si tratta di un contributo importante che potrà essere utilizzato sia per la cura ordinaria che per interventi più rilevanti”.

La necessità di affiancare la salvaguardia dell’esistente alla creazione di nuove opere è il fulcro dell’intervento dell’assessore Filippo Boni: “Portare a termine la realizzazione dei grandi itinerari cicloturistici toscani, dei quali il sistema integrato Ciclovia dell’Arno-Sentiero della Bonifica e la Ciclopista Tirrenica sono i due esempi più avanzati, è la prima grande sfida per lo sviluppo della mobilità dolce e del cicloturismo in Toscana ma una ulteriore sfida sta nella manutenzione e nella cura del patrimonio esistente: per questo abbiamo deliberato un sostegno ai Comuni attraversati da questi itinerari, con l’obiettivo di aiutarli a manutenere un totale di oltre 330 chilometri di percorsi ciclopedonali e rendere così sempre più accessibile e fruibile il nostro straordinario territorio”.

A beneficiare dei contributi sarà un’ampia e capillare platea di enti locali. La mappatura del rischio legato ai terremoti in Toscana si fa sempre più accurata. L’amministrazione regionale prosegue nel suo programma di analisi territoriale mirato a simulare potenziali eventi tellurici, valutandone in anticipo l’impatto a livello locale. Questi dati si rivelano strumenti cruciali per una corretta gestione delle emergenze, per la pianificazione urbanistica, per la progettazione di nuove strutture e per la delicata fase di ricostruzione post-sisma.

In quest’ottica, la Regione ha compiuto un nuovo passo formale. Lo scorso 14 maggio, tramite il decreto numero 10830, è stato approvato un bando rivolto specificamente agli Enti locali. Sul piatto c’è un milione di euro, proveniente dal Fondo europeo di sviluppo regionale. Le risorse finanzieranno indagini specialistiche denominate di Microzonazione sismica di livello 4. Si tratta di studi di altissima precisione, riservati esclusivamente ai Comuni toscani che hanno già completato la mappatura di ‘Livello 3’, con lo scopo di affinare ulteriormente i dati a disposizione.

A delineare la strategia dietro questo stanziamento è l’assessore regionale all’ambiente, David Barontini: “La Regione Toscana sta portando avanti un lavoro concreto di rafforzamento della prevenzione sismica, attraverso gli studi di microzonazione sismica, per aumentare la sicurezza dei territori e delle comunità. L’obiettivo è quello di realizzare cartografie di pericolosità sismica locale sempre più precise, migliorando la conoscenza del sottosuolo e la capacità di valutare gli effetti di un possibile evento sismico”.

L’assessore evidenzia anche un primato tecnico dell’ente in questo settore: “Questo significa rafforzare la prevenzione, rendere più sicura la programmazione degli interventi e aumentare la protezione del patrimonio edilizio, con particolare attenzione agli edifici pubblici strategici e ai contesti più esposti. Peraltro la Toscana è fra le due Regioni italiane a effettuare internamente il controllo sulla microzonazione, senza ricorrere a soggetti esterni”. Concludendo poi sul senso complessivo dell’operazione: “È un lavoro che unisce conoscenza scientifica e pianificazione del territorio, e che rappresenta uno strumento fondamentale per costruire comunità più sicure e preparate di fronte al rischio sismico”.

Il milione di euro appena sbloccato rappresenta solo l’ultimo tassello di un investimento a lungo termine: negli ultimi quindici anni, infatti, l’ente ha destinato oltre sei milioni di euro alle attività di prevenzione e conoscenza della sismicità regionale.

L’esito toscano diventa quindi il potenziale motore per una riscossa più vasta, a patto di replicare su scala nazionale la medesima ricetta a base di alleanze ampie, candidati autorevoli e pragmatismo. “Il voto dimostra che non basta opporsi alla destra: bisogna costruire un’alternativa credibile. E questa alternativa nasce nei territori, dai sindaci, dagli amministratori locali, dai circoli, dai militanti, dalle energie democratiche e progressiste che ogni giorno tengono vive le comunità. È lì che si ricostruisce fiducia. È lì che si dimostra che la buona politica non grida, ma ascolta, decide e governa”, evidenzia Mazzeo.

Per vincere, prosegue l’esponente dem, serve un centrosinistra largo ma identitario, capace di rimettere al centro dell’agenda la sanità pubblica, il lavoro, la scuola, i diritti e l’ambiente. Con questa visione, il richiamo è alla massima concentrazione in vista del secondo turno: “Adesso testa, cuore ed energie sui ballottaggi di Arezzo e Viareggio con Vincenzo Ceccarelli e Federica Maineri. Sono due sfide decisive non solo per quelle città, ma per rafforzare il messaggio che arriva dalla Toscana: la destra si può battere, il centrosinistra può vincere, e può farlo governando bene”.

La chiusura è un monito a capitalizzare il consenso ottenuto, trasformandolo in un progetto di respiro nazionale: “Complimenti ai sindaci eletti e a tutte le squadre che li hanno sostenuti. Ora il nostro compito è non disperdere questa energia. Dalla Toscana può partire una spinta decisiva per costruire l’alternativa nazionale e tornare a vincere le politiche. Ma per riuscirci dobbiamo continuare a fare ciò che i cittadini ci chiedono: stare uniti, stare nei territori, ascoltare, governare bene e parlare al Paese con serietà, coraggio e speranza”.

– 25 May 2026 – Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chulalongkorn University to advance a strategic collaboration on knowledge, and technology, with support from international partners. The partnership aims to develop and pilot carbon capture technologies in SARABURI SANDBOX, paving the way for industrial-scale deployment and future policy development. This marks a significant step in laying the foundation for Thailand’s low-carbon industrial ecosystem and supporting the country’s Net Zero 2050 target.
 

Mr. Surachai Nimla-or, Chairman of TCMA, stated that the collaboration reflects the proactive role of the industrial sector in advancing the country’s climate commitments through a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model. The initiative brings together industry, academia, government, and international partners, including Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), to accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon cement industry in line with the Thailand 2050 Net Zero Cement and Concrete Roadmap. 

“This collaboration with Chulalongkorn University elevates our efforts into a long-term platform, from knowledge development and workforce readiness to pilot-scale technology deployment. It will be strengthened by Canadian expertise and real-world testing in the SARABURI SANDBOX, which will serve as a learning platform to develop scalable solutions for industrial application” Mr. Surachai said. 

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, emphasized the university’s role as a Strategic Knowledge Partner in bridging research and real-world implementation, while fostering “Green Talent” to support industrial transformation. 

“Chulalongkorn University sees this collaboration as a strategic mechanism to strengthen the knowledge base in low-carbon technologies alongside human capital development. This will enhance workforce capabilities in line with the transition and support Thailand’s long-term green economy” Professor Dr. Wilert said. 

H.E. Ping Kitnikone, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, expressed Canada’s strong support for the initiative, highlighting over 65 years of bilateral relations and shared commitment to climate action. 

“This collaboration encompasses knowledge transfer, technology, and expertise in greenhouse gas mitigation, particularly through technical experts and capacity building. Carbon capture technology will serve as a bridge between innovation and industrial application, helping drive the transition toward a low-carbon economy,” the ambassador noted. 

From the government side, Dr. Pirun Saiyasitpanich, Director General of Department of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment stated that the cement industry is a strategic sector in reducing national greenhouse gas emissions toward Net Zero 2050, while strengthening climate resilience. 

“This collaboration serves as a key policy mechanism linking project-level implementation to national-level action, with SARABURI SANDBOX acting as a testbed for learning and development. The outcomes will inform policy design and enable effective scaling at the national level” Dr. Pirun said. 

Mr. Teeratas Isarangkul Na Ayudhaya, Deputy Director General of the Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry added that the initiative aligns with the “One MIND” policy, which integrates regulation with the promotion of green industry. 

“The Department stands ready to support this collaboration in developing a scalable industrial model that enhances Thailand’s competitiveness in a sustainability-driven global economy” Mr. Teeratas said. 

Dr. Chana Poomee, Honorary Chairman of TCMA and President of ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM), highlighted the initiative as a key step in positioning Thailand as a “regional model” for industrial decarbonization. 

“By integrating cross-sector collaboration through PPP, linking policy, technology, knowledge, and workforce development to real-world implementation, this initiative will establish the foundation of a Low-Carbon Industrial Ecosystem and evolve into a system-level model that can be scaled across the region,” he said. 

This collaboration marks the starting point of Thailand’s low-carbon industrial ecosystem, connecting knowledge, technology, innovation, human capital, and policy into real-world applications and commercial pathways. It is expected to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, strengthen climate resilience, and enhance the country’s competitiveness in an increasingly sustainability-driven global landscape.
