Approval Based Upon Phase 3 DeLLphi-304 Trial Demonstrating 40% Reduction in Risk of Death with IMDYLLTRA Compared to Chemotherapy  

Novel Treatment Option for Patients with Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer That Has Progressed   

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) today announced that the European Commission (EC) has granted marketing authorization for IMDYLLTRA® (tarlatamab) as a monotherapy to treat adults with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) who require systemic therapy following disease progression on or after first-line treatment with platinum-based chemotherapy. 

The approval was based on results from DeLLphi-304, the first global Phase 3 trial to demonstrate a significant survival benefit over chemotherapy in this setting.1
 

“Small cell lung cancer is one of the most aggressive solid tumors, with high rates of relapse following first-line treatment and limited treatment options,” said Jean-Charles Soria, senior vice president of Oncology at Amgen. “The European Commission’s approval of IMDYLLTRA, the first and only T-cell engager therapy approved to treat small cell lung cancer, marks an important step forward for patients in Europe and reflects our commitment to advancing innovative medicines that can meaningfully improve outcomes for people living with this devastating disease.” 

DeLLphi-304, the global Phase 3 clinical trial, demonstrated that IMDYLLTRA reduced the risk of death by 40% and significantly extended median overall survival (OS) by more than five months compared to standard of care (SOC) chemotherapy as a treatment for patients with ES-SCLC who progressed on or after one line of platinum-based chemotherapy (median OS: 13.6 vs. 8.3 months; hazard ratio (HR), 0.60; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.47, 0.77; P < 0.001).1   

“Patients with small cell lung cancer have historically faced a hard road when they progress after initial treatment, surviving only a few months,” said Debra Montague, president, Lung Cancer Europe (LuCE). “Approval of a novel treatment option for people in Europe living with this challenging cancer represents meaningful progress and underscores the urgent need for innovation in lung cancer care.” 

The safety profile for IMDYLLTRA was consistent with its known profile. The most common adverse reactions were cytokine release syndrome (CRS) (56.7%), decreased appetite (36.4%), pyrexia (31.9%), dysgeusia (31.3%), constipation (30.4%), anaemia (30.0%), fatigue (29.8%), nausea (24.9%), asthenia (19.0%), neutropenia (16.9%), hyponatraemia (16.7%), headache (16.3%) and lymphopenia (15.6%). The most common serious adverse reactions were CRS (19.7%) and pyrexia (4.7%). 

CRS primarily occurred after the first two doses. As reflected in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC), patients should be monitored from the start of the IMDYLLTRA infusion for 6 to 8 hours on Cycle 1 Day 1 and Cycle 1 Day 8 in an appropriate healthcare setting.2
 

Amgen’s robust IMDYLLTRA clinical development program includes the DeLLphi clinical trials, which evaluate IMDYLLTRA as a monotherapy and as part of combination regimens, including in both earlier stages of SCLC and earlier lines of treatment.   

About the Phase 3 DeLLphi-304 StudyDeLLphi-304 is a global Phase 3, randomized, controlled, open-label clinical trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of IMDYLLTRA as a treatment for patients living with SCLC who progressed on or after one platinum-based chemotherapy regimen. Five hundred and nine patients were randomized to receive either IMDYLLTRA or local standard of care chemotherapy (topotecan in all countries except Japan; lurbinectedin in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea; and amrubicin in Japan). The primary outcome measure of the trial is OS. Key secondary outcome measures include progression-free survival (PFS) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) including disease-related symptoms, physical function, and quality of life.3 Results from DeLLphi-304 were reviewed as a late-breaking presentation at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting and simultaneously published in The New England Journal of Medicine.1,4

The majority relates to Kappa Optronics’ (KAPPA) Vehicle Awareness Systems for several hundred armored vehicles in a European Union country, with deliveries spanning from 2026 to 2028. Le relazioni tra Cina e Africa si sono evolute a partire da un’amicizia forgiata da lotte comuni che con il passare del tempo ha dato vita a un partenariato dinamico dedicato allo sviluppo, alla modernizzazione e all’ascesa del Sud del mondo. 

Dalla solidarietà al partenariato strategico
 

Le fondamenta dell’amicizia tra Cina e Africa sono state poste durante un periodo di profondi cambiamenti politici. 

Dagli anni ’50 agli anni ’70, la Cina ha sostenuto con fermezza i Paesi africani nelle loro lotte per l’indipendenza nazionale e la liberazione. Le nazioni africane, a loro volta, hanno svolto un ruolo decisivo nel ripristinare il legittimo seggio della Repubblica Popolare Cinese alle Nazioni Unite nel 1971. Dei 76 voti espressi a favore della risoluzione, 26 provenivano da Paesi africani: ciò ha posto delle solide basi per la fiducia reciproca tra Cina e Africa. 

All’inizio di quest’anno, il ministro degli Esteri cinese Wang Yi ha visitato l’Africa, proseguendo una tradizione della durata di 36 anni che vede il continente come destinazione del primo viaggio all’estero del ministro degli Esteri cinese ogni anno, a sottolineare l’importanza delle relazioni tra la Cina e l’Africa. 

Negli ultimi due decenni, la cooperazione tra Cina e Africa si è ampliata rapidamente. Nel 2000, l’istituzione del Forum sulla cooperazione Cina-Africa (FOCAC) ha fornito un quadro istituzionale per la cooperazione, mentre la politica cinese nei confronti dell’Africa, improntata a sentimenti di sincera amicizia e buona fede, e orientata verso risultati concreti, ha ulteriormente guidato le relazioni bilaterali. Nel 2015, i due Paesi hanno indirizzato i loro rapporti verso un partenariato strategico di cooperazione globale che ha consentito loro di avviare i “Dieci piani di cooperazione”, ponendo così delle solide basi per una rapida modernizzazione in tutto il continente africano. 

Al vertice FOCAC del 2024, la Cina e l’Africa hanno ulteriormente rafforzato il loro rapporto, trasformandolo in una comunità solidale con un futuro condiviso per una nuova era. Entro il 2025, la Cina ha inoltre esteso l’accesso in esenzione doganale da 33 Paesi africani a tutti i 53 Paesi africani con cui intrattiene relazioni diplomatiche, diventando la prima grande economia a concedere un trattamento unilaterale a tariffa zero su tutte le categorie di prodotti a ogni paese africano con cui ha rapporti diplomatici.

Promuovere la modernizzazione attraverso la cooperazione pratica
 

Mentre la fiducia politica costituisce il fondamento delle relazioni tra Cina e Africa, la cooperazione economica è diventata sia il fattore di stabilità che il motore di crescita del partenariato. 

Secondo i dati diffusi dall’Amministrazione generale delle dogane della Repubblica Popolare Cinese, nel 2025 gli scambi commerciali tra Cina e Africa hanno raggiunto la cifra record di 348 miliardi di dollari, con un aumento del 17,7% rispetto all’anno precedente, e la Cina è rimasta il principale partner commerciale dell’Africa per il 17° anno consecutivo. Lo slancio è proseguito anche nel 2026. Solo nel primo trimestre, gli scambi commerciali della Cina con i Paesi africani hanno totalizzato 646,56 miliardi di yuan (92,2 miliardi di dollari), con un aumento del 23,7% rispetto all’anno precedente. 

Allo stesso tempo, l’iniziativa «Belt and Road» ha ridefinito la connettività in tutto il continente, potenziando la rete ferroviaria con progetti quali la ferrovia Tazara e la ferrovia a scartamento standard Mombasa-Nairobi, che rappresentano progetti faro e costituiscono esempi di cooperazione di alta qualità nell’ambito della «Belt and Road» tra Cina e Africa. 

Secondo il Ministero degli Esteri cinese, al 2023 la Cina ha firmato accordi di alleggerimento del debito o raggiunto intese in tal senso con 19 Paesi africani, diventando così il principale contributore agli sforzi di sospensione del servizio del debito nell’ambito del G20. 

Nel frattempo, la Cina ha formato decine di migliaia di professionisti africani attraverso borse di studio, formazione professionale e programmi di scambio educativo. A giugno 2025, la Cina ha istituito 17 Workshop Luban in 15 paesi africani, mentre il piano di cooperazione universitaria Cina-Africa, un’iniziativa di istruzione superiore che mette in contatto università cinesi con istituzioni africane, ha collegato 114 istituti di istruzione superiore.
