“Fin dai primi giorni dell’insediamento della nuova giunta, l’assessorato al commercio è stato chiamato a gestire la questione dello spostamento del mercato nelle giornate del 24 e 27 giugno, interessate dagli allestimenti necessari per lo svolgimento degli eventi del Luglio Pistoiese in piazza del Duomo – spiegano dl municipio -Il cronoprogramma degli allestimenti, predisposto dagli uffici competenti per la programmazione culturale, ha reso necessario intervenire con urgenza. In assenza di tempi tecnici sufficienti per prendere provvedimenti alternativi, l’amministrazione ha applicato quanto previsto dal vigente regolamento del commercio, approvato nel 2023, che individua nell’area dello stadio la sede per il trasferimento del mercato in caso di impossibilità di svolgimento nel centro storico. La medesima procedura sarà adottata anche in occasione delle celebrazioni jacopee del 25 luglio, che interesseranno non soltanto piazza del Duomo ma l’intero centro cittadino e le aree limitrofe”.

“Restano inoltre da gestire le giornate del 4 e dell’11 luglio, concomitanti con l’allestimento del mercatino collegato al Pistoia Blues Festivaò – dice il Comune – In questo caso il bando di assegnazione, predisposto dalla precedente amministrazione, prevede che gli operatori possano installare le proprie strutture fin dal mattino del primo giorno e mantenerle fino al termine dell’evento. Tale previsione rende impossibile accogliere la proposta avanzata da alcuni ambulanti di anticipare lo smontaggio dei banchi del mercato per consentire successivamente il montaggio delle strutture del mercatino. Si sottolinea come le decisioni adottate siano state determinate da due elementi fondamentali: l’urgenza di garantire la continuità delle attività mercatali e il rispetto delle disposizioni contenute nel regolamento vigente”.

“Parallelamente, l’amministrazione ha immediatamente avviato un confronto con le associazioni di categoria rappresentative degli operatori ambulanti e del commercio. A tal fine è stato convocato un tavolo di lavoro con Confcommercio e Confesercenti, durante il quale sono state esaminate possibili soluzioni alternative rispetto al trasferimento integrale nell’area dello stadio. Grazie al lavoro tecnico svolto dagli uffici comunali, è stata elaborata una proposta che prevede la redistribuzione degli operatori di piazza del Duomo in diverse aree del centro storico. Tale ipotesi, pur rappresentando un segnale significativo apprezzato dalle categorie coinvolte, non è stata ritenuta sufficientemente soddisfacente dagli operatori interessati – spiegano ancora dall’amministrazione – Ci si è dunque concentrati sulla necessità di limitare l’impatto dello spostamento verso piazza San Francesco degli ambulanti di piazza del Duomo nelle restanti date di luglio (5 mercoledì e un sabato). In particolare, sono stati recuperati complessivamente 11 stalli (10 o 11 a seconda della giornata di mercato): otto nell’area del Battistero e tre lungo il percorso che collega il cuore del centro storico a piazza San Francesco. L’obiettivo è quello di garantire una maggiore continuità del percorso mercatale, per non dare l’impressione che il mercato finisca all’inizio di via P. Bozzi”.

“L’esperienza maturata nella gestione in emergenza di questa situazione ha evidenziato la necessità di un ripensamento complessivo dell’organizzazione del mercato cittadino – dice l’ente – Le esigenze espresse dagli operatori risultano infatti differenziate: da una parte vi sono gli ambulanti di piazza del Duomo che lamentano una riduzione degli affari nelle sedi alternative; dall’altra gli operatori delle vie limitrofe che evidenziano come i loro stalli non siano direttamente interessati dagli allestimenti e dalle manifestazioni che si terranno in piazza e ritengono penalizzante il trasferimento in altre aree. A queste istanze si aggiungono quelle delle attività commerciali in sede fissa, che considerano il mercato un importante elemento di attrazione e di sostegno all’afflusso di clienti nel centro storico. Per questo motivo l’Amministrazione ritiene necessario intervenire sia sul mercato sia sul piano del commercio in maniera organica e strutturale. Tra le priorità individuate vi è la verifica delle concessioni e delle situazioni di morosità. Attraverso il concessionario Abaco sono già state effettuate le ricognizioni delle posizioni irregolari e sono stati inviati i relativi avvisi bonari. Nei casi in cui non si procederà alla regolarizzazione, il Comune avvierà gli accertamenti previsti dalla normativa, che potranno condurre alla decadenza delle concessioni”.

“L’eventuale riduzione del numero complessivo degli operatori consentirà di ripensare la distribuzione degli spazi, migliorare l’organizzazione delle categorie merceologiche e predisporre soluzioni più efficaci anche per la gestione delle emergenze e degli eventi che richiedono lo spostamento del mercato. L’obiettivo dell’amministrazione è quello di rilanciare il mercato cittadino sotto il profilo della qualità, del decoro, dell’ordine e dell’attrattività commerciale, rendendolo più facilmente fruibile dai cittadini e maggiormente competitivo. Nella delibera che la giunta si appresta ad approvare (che prevede lo spostamento in piazza San Francesco degli ambulanti di Ppazza del Duomo per 6 edizioni su 11) è inoltre previsto che, nelle giornate in cui gli operatori saranno trasferiti a piazza San Francesco, le loro eventuali assenze non vengano conteggiate ai fini delle graduatorie e delle presenze. Una misura pensata per evitare ulteriori penalizzazioni degli operatori coinvolti. L’amministrazione comunale rinnova infine l’invito al dialogo e alla collaborazione con tutte le categorie interessate”.

He will also serve as the 11th Co-Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (the Association), the global alliance formed by CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

A long-standing CIMA volunteer, Alfred joined the CIMA Gauteng Branch as Secretary in 1998 and was appointed President of the South Africa Area Committee in 1999. He played a key role in establishing the Southern Africa Regional Board in 2000 and served as its inaugural Chairman from 2002 to 2009. 

In 2009, Alfred was co-opted onto CIMA Council and served on the Global Markets, Marketing, and Professional Standards Committees until he stepped down in 2011. In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the Institute, Alfred was awarded the CIMA Silver Medal in 2013.

Three-year initiative offers up to $25,000 per athlete to remove financial barriers preventing kids from playing the sports they love 

LOS ANGELES, June 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Luka Dončić Foundation today officially opened applications for Stay in Play, a three-year global grant program designed to eliminate financial barriers that force young athletes out of the sports they love. The announcement follows Luka Dončić’s acquisition of Vanoli Cremona as part of an ownership group that has relocated the professional basketball club to Rome. 

Over the next three years, the Luka Dončić Foundation will award grants of up to $25,000 USD to 77 young athletes aged 12-15 from around the world. Each grant is designed to cover the costs that most often create barriers for participation — coaching or training, equipment or gear, travel expenses to train or compete, or club, league, or program fees. 

“When I was a kid growing up in Ljubljana, all I wanted to do was run to the outdoor court behind my apartment to play basketball. It was my peace place,” said Luka Dončić. “I’m so sad to see kids walking away from youth sports because of circumstances outside their control. Play changed my life, I know how quickly dreams can disappear without the right opportunities. That’s why I’m so passionate about Stay in Play. I want to make it easier for young athletes to keep playing the sports they love.” 

Addressing a Critical Gap in Youth Sports 

Stay in Play targets young athletes ages 12-15, when dropout rates hit their peak. Research shows that most young athletes quit sports by age 12, not because they’ve lost interest or talent, but because the financial strain becomes too much. Stay in Play is designed to step in during these critical years to make sure young athletes can continue developing their skills, building confidence, and experiencing the joy of sport. 

“Financial barriers shouldn’t decide whether a young athlete gets to keep playing the sport they love,” said Lara Beth Seager, CEO of the Luka Dončić Foundation. “This isn’t about finding the next generation of professionals. Applications are open today, June 24, and run through August 20, 2026, for young athletes in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. The program supports athletes across 176 sports—from basketball and soccer to gymnastics, swimming, track and field, and beyond. 

Each grant is intentionally flexible because every athlete’s barriers are different. Funds can cover:

Part of a Broader Mission 

Stay in Play builds on the Luka Dončić Foundation’s broader mission to transform youth sports culture. Since launching in December 2024, the foundation has published Inside Youth Basketball, a landmark research report examining the differences between the US and Balkan youth basketball ecosystems; developed Total Hoops, a research-backed coaching curriculum for youth basketball in partnership with the Search Institute; and partnered with the Aspen Institute’s Project Play to examine structural barriers in youth basketball across North America.

The newly introduced 587Ah semi-solid-state cell combines the safety advantages of solid-state battery technology with the scalability and cost efficiency required for commercial deployment. By utilizing a proprietary composite oxide-polymer electrolyte system, the cell reduces free electrolyte content to less than 0.01%, delivering a significant improvement in safety performance while maintaining mass-production viability. To demonstrate its safety credentials, the cell has successfully completed a series of extreme abuse tests, including compression at ten times the national standard, full-cell cutting, one-hour exposure to 200°C, and direct exposure to flames exceeding 1,000°C, all without fire or explosion.

The landmark transformation creates five focused businesses central to India’s industrial growth, infrastructure development, energy security and self-reliance ambitions.
